Another older mother in celebrity land! Will she glamorize being an older mother or make it real? That is my question to be explored for the rest of my life.

I’m tired of saying it, focusing on it and yet I can’t help but wonder what it is really like for others who became mothers at an older age. It feels like the 50’s era when everyone thought that being like Donna Reed was the norm. Women who did not feel or act like Donna, ran screaming to the hills because they were doing something wrong. Are there any women out there who are ready to speak about the real deal in being an older mother?

I am an older mother and I feel very weird and out of place so much so that I have become terribly depressed. I didn’t with my first son that I had at the age of 37. But more so with my second that came at the age of 44. I started to notice how old I truly was. I have to fight harder not to look my age and thankfully I have been able to pull off looking 10 years younger (all in part from taking good care of myself, exercising and having a general child-like attitude about life). I have become aware of having to start over and sit thru moms and tots talking with other much younger mothers, hoping they don’t find out how old I really am. I am starting to really worry too about my health and if I will be around for my kids when I am 60 (not many years away I am afraid). I guess no amount of worrying about it is any good. I only hope that I stay the great mom I am. I have several 40 something friends that have babies so at least I have somewhat of a social network for older parents. I just was one of those parents that did not want children until later in life and then I really wanted them and would not give up until I did.
